Infertility Treatments that Increase Conception Chances
Infertility — the difficulty conceiving after months of trying — currently affects 6.7 million American women age 15-44. The causes are diverse, but modern infertility treatments are effective.
Before prescribing any infertility treatments, a physician or reproductive health specialist will work with you to investigate your individual situation.
This allows a clinic to offer the most cost-effective infertility treatment with the highest chance of promoting conception.
If you’re weighing the pros and cons of possible infertility treatment and trying to decide what to do, Portland-based Oregon Reproductive Medicine can help.
Our physicians will first do a complete work-up to diagnose any physical problems that may result in infertility.
Infertility diagnostic tools at Oregon Reproductive Medicine:
Interviews that cover health and reproductive history
Tests of the uterus
Tests of the fallopian tubes
Tests of the ovaries
Test of the cervix
Semen analysis
Once a full assessment is completed, our physicians will discuss with you the infertility treatments that can best increase your chances of conceiving.
Infertility treatments offered by Oregon Reproductive Medicine:
Oral Medications or Injectable Medication
These medications stimulate ovulation through the release of gonadotropins from the pituitary gland. They often accompany and contribute to the success of other infertility treatments.
IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)
A type of fertility treatment in which sperm is washed and introduced directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation.
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
An infertility treatment that uses assisted reproductive technology to fertilize a woman’s eggs outside her body. The resulting embryos are then transferred into the woman’s uterus through the cervix.
ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) with IVF
An infertility treatment in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. The embryo is then transferred to the woman’s uterus via IVF. This procedure is most commonly used to overcome male factor infertility.
PGD (Pre-genetic Diagnosis)
Pre-genetic Diagnosis is used in tandem with IVF to test embryos for genetic disorders prior to transfer into the uterus. This infertility treatment can allow for higher conception rates by only transferring healthy embryos.
Donor Eggs with IVF
Paired with IVF, this treatment has an embryo formed from the egg of one woman (the donor) and then transferred to the woman who is unable to use her own eggs (the recipient).
Gestation Carrier with IVF
This infertility treatment pairs IVF with a gestational surrogate who carries an embryo that was formed from the egg of another woman.
Male Factor Treatments
These infertility treatments address any cause of infertility because of a male’s low sperm count or problems with sperm function that make it difficult for a sperm to fertilize an egg under normal conditions. Treatments may be surgical or involve a donor.
Egg Preservation
Preserving eggs allows a woman’s viable eggs to be used later. This is often done when cancer treatment or other factors are likely to cause infertility to develop in the future.
Egg and/or Sperm Donation
Egg and sperm donations allow an embryo to be created with either male or female factor infertility or both. This treatment can then be combined with other procedures to allow the woman to carry the embryo.
