DR. SGARLATA
ORM Fertility Medical Director
“I get to know my patients and their full story. From there, we take all of the tools we have available and apply them in a comprehensive way that will enhance their body’s ability to conceive.”
Meet Dr. Sgarlata
Carmelo Sgarlata, MD, is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist with extensive experience in the field of in vitro fertilization and integrative medicine. He joined ORM Fertility in March of 2016 and oversees its new Integrative Medicine practice.
Prior to joining ORM, Dr. Sgarlata was with the Reproductive Science Center in San Jose, California, and one of the first OB/GYN physicians in the area to provide reproductive endocrinology and infertility services. In 1988 he co-founded the first comprehensive South Bay Area Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) program. He’s also the founder and past president of the Bay Area Reproductive Endocrinology Society.
Dr. Sgarlata believes the foundation for health is the combination of lifestyle, genetics and environment. He stresses that there is no more important time for optimal health than when planning a family:
Three to six months prior to conception is the ideal time to plan and optimize health in both women and men,” he says. “As a part of my work, I’m focused on giving patients tools to enhance fertility naturally. Mind-body techniques such as mindfulness, yoga and acupuncture, as well as a well-balanced diet and a judicious use of supplements can all enhance fertility and work along side conventional medical treatments. These tools not only help with conception, but provide patients the framework for a successful pregnancy and beyond.”
Dr. Sgarlata examines scientific data and patient history to create consolidated plans that will enhance fertility success.
