Learn more about IVF options in Oregon
Oregon Reproductive Medicine is unmatched by any other clinic in the nation when it comes to in vitro fertilization (IVF) live-birth success – 80% in women under the age of 35 – and is located in Portland, Oregon.
IVF is an advanced infertility treatment that involves removing eggs from a woman’s ovaries and fertilizing them outside her body in a laboratory. Couples with both female- and male-factor infertility may benefit IVF treatments.
When is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Used?
Candidates for IVF include women with tubal disease, unexplained infertility, and other cases. IVF is also used when male infertility occurs: basic artificial insemination (AI) is set aside in favor of a more advanced procedure. Candidates at Oregon Reproductive Medicine come from all over the United States and the world.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Steps
An in vitro fertilization cycle involves ovulation induction, egg retrieval, fertilization and culture, and embryo transfer.
Choosing sperm and egg is handled through Oregon Reproductive Medicine’s Exceptional Donors Program. Patients typically supply their own sperm and egg, but each situation is different, and some require the procurement of a donor.
Ovulation induction involves taking medications to produce several eggs at once. Having more viable eggs lowers the ultimate cost of IVF by increasing the chances of an individual cycle.
Monitoring and testing is done throughout your treatment. Doctors use these measures to monitor progress and carefully watch for side effects.
Egg retrieval is done once follicles have matured. This half-hour procedure is guided by ultrasound and under anesthesia.
Fertilization and culture take place in a laboratory where highly trained specialists fertilize the retrieved eggs with sperm from a partner or donor.
Embryo transfer occurs a few days later when two or more embryos are placed in the woman’s uterus through the cervix. Ultrasound is again used, and at least two days of recovery time is required.
Early Success Minimizes In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Cost
For couples in the United States, the average cost of one cycle of in vitro fertilization is $12,000, but it ranges from about $10,000 to $16,000. Travel costs can also be a factor, as IVF treatments require multiple visits. Oregon Reproductive Medicine, located in Portland, is perfect for its accessibility to a major city and International airport.
Individualization is key to high success rates, so cost varies based on medication, testing, lab work, doctor’s fees, and the number of IVF cycles needed for a viable pregnancy.
Needing fewer IVF cycles because of early success is the most effective way to control costs.
Most health insurance companies still fail to cover assisted reproductive treatments, and IVF costs may add up because the outcome can’t be guaranteed.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Refund Plan
At Portland-based Oregon Reproductive Medicine, we understand that finances are a major concern for many who want to move forward with in vitro fertilization treatment.
Oregon Reproductive Medicine achieves some of the highest pregnancy success rates in the country – up to 80% live-birth success in women under 35. Even so, some patients do require multiple IVF cycles.
At Oregon Reproductive Medicine, the typical price of an in vitro fertilization cycle (with all testing, medications, monitoring, anesthesia, etc.) is about $15,000.
Additional cycles significantly increase costs, but we have developed a refund plan to help you make a more informed decision and control out-of-pocket expenses.
Our Promise™ is a refund plan available to patients who do not have insurance coverage for in vitro fertilization. The program includes up to three fresh in vitro fertilization procedures and all frozen embryo transfers (if available) at one set price. Our Promise™ refunds 70 percent of the money you spend on the plan if you don’t have a baby within two years.
