Fertility Treatment in America

Fertility is the natural ability people have to conceive and give birth to children.

When most people talk about fertility, they are talking about demographic trends involving birth rate or an individual’s ability to conceive.

A fertility rate for a population shows how many people are actually having children, not how many people have the ability. In the United States, the births per 1,000 people in 2010 was 1.93.

Individual fertility can be a painful subject for the many people who are having difficulty conceiving. Trying for months without a viable pregnancy is called infertility, and it affects 6.7 million American women age 15-44.

The causes are diverse, but modern treatments are effective.

Exploring Your Fertility

If you’re struggling with fertility, a physician or reproductive health specialist will work with you to investigate your individual situation.

This allows a clinic to offer the most cost-effective plan with the highest chance of promoting conception.

If you’re weighing possible treatment, Portland-based Oregon Reproductive Medicine can help.

Our physicians will first do a complete workup to diagnose any physical problems.

Fertility diagnostic tools at Oregon Reproductive Medicine:

  • Interviews that cover health and reproductive history
  • Tests of the uterus
  • Tests of the fallopian tubes
  • Tests of the ovaries
  • Test of the cervix
  • Semen analysis

Once a full assessment is completed, a physician will discuss with you the fertility treatment that can best increase your chances of conceiving.

Fertility Treatments

Oral Medications or Injectable Medication

These medications stimulate ovulation through the release of gonadotropins from the pituitary gland. They often accompany and contribute to the success of other treatment.

Intra Uterine Insemination

A type of fertility treatment in which sperm is isolated and introduced directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation.

In Vitro Fertilization

A fertility treatment that uses assisted reproductive technology to fertilize a woman’s eggs outside her body. The resulting embryos are then transferred into the woman’s uterus through the cervix.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

A fertility treatment in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. The embryo is then transferred to the woman’s uterus via IVF.

Pre-genetic Diagnosis

Pre-genetic Diagnosis is used in tandem with IVF to test embryos for genetic disorders prior to transfer into the uterus. This fertility treatment can allow for higher conception rates by only transferring healthy embryos.

Male Factor Treatments

These infertility treatments address any cause of infertility because of a male’s low sperm count or problems with sperm function that make it difficult to fertilize an egg.

Egg Preservation

Preserving eggs allows a woman’s viable eggs to be used later.

Egg and/or Sperm Donation

Egg and sperm donations allow an embryo to be created with either male or female factor infertility or both. This treatment can then be combined with other procedures to potentially allow the woman to carry the embryo.

Learn More About Fertility

Aside from the fertility treatments themselves, we urge you to consider your goals, timeline, and comprehensive financial and insurance information.

You can find out more about how couples are able to increase their fertility at a free informational seminar, where doctors from Oregon Reproductive Medicine answer all your questions and discuss the promising treatments now available.

Our events take place across the country, and we may be visiting your city soon.
