Infertility

What is Infertility?

While sometimes used synonymously, “infertility” and “sterility” are two separate medical conditions. “Sterility” is an inability to conceive a child. Infertility is the reduced or lack of ability to conceive and carry a child, whether it be temporary or permanent.

Infertility has both a primary and secondary component. “Primary Infertility” refers to when a couple is able to become pregnant, but the woman is not able to carry the pregnancy long enough to deliver a baby. “Secondary Infertility” is when a couple who, after a first successful pregnancy and labor, is then unable to carry further pregnancies long enough to deliver a baby. Both males and females can be considered infertile.

The good news is that there are several successful options to treating infertility. A world-class fertility clinic such as Oregon Reproductive medicine can walk a couple through the process of evaluating and addressing the possible causes of infertility.

Tests for Infertility

Because both males and females can be infertile, testing is done by reproductive specialists to determine the possible cause or causes. For females, this includes testing and evaluating hormones, ovulation, and other reproductive health. For males (who make up 40-50% of all infertility cases), infertility tests include a semen analysis, which will check sperm production, mobility, and the size and shape of the sperm.

Moving Past Infertility

There’s no doubt infertility can be addressed and overcome, and Oregon Reproductive Medicine has an outstanding track record of success when it comes to helping couples achieve their family planning goals. You can find out more about infertility testing at a free informational seminar, where doctors from Oregon Reproductive Medicine answer all your questions and discuss the promising treatments now available.

Our events take place across the country, and we may be visiting your city soon.
